What VCAA requires

  • Students must acknowledge all resources used in school-based assessment, including generative AI.
  • Unattributed or disallowed use of generative AI may breach VCAA rules and must be investigated under the school's procedures.
  • If an allegation is investigated, the student may be asked to show how the work developed, discuss it, provide other samples of their work, or complete a related supplementary task under supervision.
  • Work done partly outside class is authenticated as the VCE Administrative Handbook sets out, including the student's signed declaration.

Victorian government schools

  • Parents give opt-in consent before students use a tool that needs personal information beyond a school email address and password.
  • Personal information about students or staff is not uploaded to AI tools.
  • Images, audio or video of students, staff or parents are not uploaded or generated.
  • Tools that ST4S has assessed as non-compliant, non-participating or high risk are not used.
  • Staff must not use generative AI to judge student achievement, write reports, or communicate directly with students or parents.

Catholic and independent schools set their own requirements, and the template marks this clause for them to replace.
